NWOR-SCCA SOLO GUIDELINES
NWOR-SCCA SOLO BOARD
1. The NWOR-SCCA Solo Board is a committee assigned by the Board of Directors (see NWOR-SCCA
ByLaws).
2. The members of the Solo Board are:
i. Solo Chair
ii. Event Chairs (1 per event)
iii. Specialty Chiefs
3. Selection of Event Chairs and Specialty Chiefs must be made by the Solo Chair in accordance
with the ByLaws.
i. Note that an Event Chair may also serve as a Specialty Chief, and that a single person
may act as more than one Specialty Chief.
i. The exception is the Waiver Chief.
4. The roles of the Event Chairs and Specialty Chiefs are as follows:
i. Event Chair
i. The Solo Chair may select up to one (1) individual per event to be named as
the Event Chair. The selection must be made in advance of the event.
ii. The responsibilities of the Event Chair are to serve as the acting chair for that
particular event, and to perform any duties as may be assigned by the Solo
Chair.
ii. Tech Chief
i. The Tech Chief is responsible for the operation of tech inspection at all Solo
events.
ii. The Tech Chief is responsible for making sure all competition vehicles meet the
inspection guidelines as published in the current year’s National Solo Rules.
iii. Registration Chief
i. The Registration Chief is responsible for registration at all Solo events.
ii. The Registration Chief is tasked with the accurate record keeping of event
entrants, money, and making sure that any required information is available at
registration.
iv. Workers Chief
i. The Workers Chief is responsible for overseeing the check-in of workers at each
event, and any planning that may occur before the event to ensure that all
work assignment needs are met.
v. Waiver Chief
i. The Waiver Chief is responsible for making sure all participants (which includes
spectators) have signed the appropriate waiver, as outlined in the National Solo
Rules.
ii. The Waiver Chief (or an acting agent) shall have no other responsibility at an
event while serving as the Waiver Chief.
vi. Timing and Scoring Chief
i. The Timing and Scoring Chief is responsible for the accurate timing and scoring
of each Solo event.
ii. The Timing and Scoring Chief will have possession of the NWOR laptop while
serving as chief.
iii. The Timing and Scoring Chief is also responsible for the timely distribution of
results during the event, and to the Points Keeper.
vii. Set—Up Chief
i. The Set-Up Chief is responsible for the setting-up of a Solo events, including
getting the van to the event.
ii. The Set-up Chief should assign a team to help at each event.
viii. Teardown Chief
i. The Teardown Chief is responsible for tearing down all Solo events and ensuring
that the facility is in the same (or better) condition than when we arrived.
Tearing down the site includes returning the van to the designated location.
ii. The Teardown Chief should assign a team to help at each event.
NWOR-SCCA REGIONAL SOLO CHAMPIONSHIP
1. The NWOR Regional Championship points will be based on the following, for all classes except the
designated PAX class:
i. Class winner = 100 points
ii. Others in class = 100 – (900 x (competitor time – winner time) / winner time)
iii. Points are rounded to whole numbers with numbers greater than 0.5 rounded up
iv. Maximum points for non-winners is 99
v. Minimum points awarded to any competitor is 10
2. PAX class points will be based on the following:
i. Class winner = 25 points
ii. Second place = 18 points
iii. Third place = 15 points
iv. Fourth place = 12 points
v. Fifth place = 10 points
vi. Sixth place = 8 points
vii. Seventh place = 6 points
viii. Eighth place = 4 points
ix. Ninth place = 2 points
x. Tenth place and under = 1 point
3. To be eligible for a season-end place trophy, NWOR-SCCA members must enter one more than
half of the points paying events. Season-end place trophies are based on the best finishes of one
more than half of the points paying events of an individual class.
4. All NWOR-SCCA members will be on the “plaque system” for season-end awards.
i. NWOR-SCCA members will not receive trophies at individual events; rather, they will
receive one season-end trophy.
5. Event trophy and season-end place trophies will be awarded as follows:
i. 1 – 3 vehicles = 1 trophy
ii. 4 – 6 vehicles = 2 trophies
iii. 7 – 9 vehicles = 3 trophies
iv. 10 or more vehicles = 3 trophies, plus 1 additional trophy for every 3 vehicles over 9
v. Note that the number of vehicles used for season-end place trophies is based on the
number of eligible vehicles that have completed one more than half the events in that
class.
vi. Note that the awarded trophies are based on the number of eligible NWOR members in
each class, as stated in bullet point “3”.
6. All NWOR-SCCA members attending the season end banquet who have competed in any number
of points paying events throughout the season, will receive a plaque.
i. Any member wishing to receive a season-end plaque without attending the banquet
must notify the Trophy Committee by the deadline for the banquet registration.
NOVICES
1. A novice is defined as any competitor who has competed in less than 3 events in any previous
season, and a grand total of no more than 5 events in any number of seasons. Once a competitor
loses novice status, it can not be “reset”.
2. All novices are eligible for trophies (in the novice class) at each points paying event. They do not
receive trophies for their proper SCCA Solo designated class.
3. Only NWOR-SCCA members are eligible for season-end trophies. See “NWOR-SCCA REGIONAL
SOLO CHAMPIONSHIP” for additional information.
4. Novices will compete against one-another while remaining in their proper SCCA Solo designated
classes.
i. For example, a novice driving in D Stock would drive with that class, but the points
would be counted in novice class.
5. The finishing position of novices will be determined by using the current National PAX index and
multiplying the novice’s best time by the PAX factor. The lower the corrected time, the higher the
finishing position.
6. Novices will be included in the vehicle count for their proper SCCA Solo designated class, and
may also take trophy positions and regional points from regular class competitors, but are only
eligible for novice trophies.
NWOR-SCCA SOLO EVENT GUIDELINES
1. The yearly published NWOR-SCCA Solo Supplemental Regulations will be distributed at all NWORSCCA
Solo events, and must be read and fully understood by all Solo competitors and their
guests. These Supplemental Regulations will be strictly enforced by the NWOR-SCCA Solo Board,
Special Event Chair (if applicable), Specialty Chiefs, and the Solo Safety Steward(s), to ensure
the safety of the event competitors, family and friends, and to guard against any loss or potential
loss of any NWOR-SCCA event site.
2. National SCCA rider policy will be adhered to as stated in the current SCCA National Solo Rules.
3. No competitor shall enter an event more than twice. If a competitor desires to have 2 entries for
an event, the following rules apply:
i. Twice the entry fee shall be paid.
ii. The competitor will only score points in the first class competed in for that event. This
will be determined by the Run-Work Order. A competitor must make arrangements at
the time of registration if there are special requests as to which class they would like to
run in first.
iii. The decision to allow a driver to enter more than once is solely at the discretion of the
Solo Chair(s), and under the condition that the event entry cap is not exceeded and the
worker pool is not adversely affected.
4. The Solo event fee will be determined by the NWOR-SCCA Solo Board in conjunction with the
NWOR Board of Directors, and must be approved according to the voting stipulations in the
ByLaws. It is the responsibility of the Registration Chief to ensure that all appropriate fees are
collected at the time of registration, and that all free entries, rule books, decals, etc. are
accounted for.
5. The Solo event fee will be waived for the following persons:
i. Current Solo Chair
ii. Event Chair (at the event they are chairing)
i. Only one Event Chair may be utilized for any event.
ii. The Event Chair must be designated prior to the event, and notification must be
given to the Registration Chief.
iii. An individual who joins NWOR-SCCA (paying both the regional and national dues) at an
event, will be allowed to run that event for free. This does not apply to renewing or
former members.
iv. Any NWOR-SCCA member bringing and registering a non-SCCA member who has never
competed in a Solo event before, will be admitted for the same event, free of charge.
v. Special certificates issues by NWOR for individuals such as sponsors, site owners, etc.
These certificates are issued at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
NWOR-SCCA SPECIAL TROPHIES
1. Most Improved Driver
i. Objective of the award: To recognize the person within the region who has improved
his/her driving skills the most in the current season, or in concurrent seasons.
ii. Judging: The award will be based on the observations of the Solo Board members and
will be a majority consensus of the Solo Board.
2. Solo Driver of the Year
iii. Objective of the award: To recognize the best driver in the region based upon that
person’s performance. The primary consideration is NWOR Class Champion, while
secondary considerations are:
i. Divisional performance
ii. National performance
iii. Pro Solo performance
iv. Central Division Championship series
iv. Judging: The award will be based on the observations of the Solo Board members and
will be a majority consensus of the Solo Board.
3. National Solo Driver of the Year
v. Objective of the award: To recognize the person within the region who has shown the
most success on a National event level during the season.
vi. Judging: The award will be based on the observations of the Solo Board members and
will be a majority consensus of the Solo Board. Consideration will be given primarily to
the driver’s performance at the National Championship, National Tours, and ProSolo
events.
4. Solo Events Award
vii. Objective of the award: To recognize the person or persons who have contributed the
most to the NWOR Solo program throughout the year.
viii. Judging: The award is decided by the NWOR-SCCA Board of Directors based on a list of
persons supplied by the Solo Board.
5. Best Solo Event
ix. Objective of the award: To recognize the most outstanding Solo event of the year.
x. Judging: The award will be determined based on a tabulation of the event evaluation
forms filled out at each event and upon the overall evaluation by the Solo Chair(s).
6. The Lynn Ritchie Memorial Award
xi. Objective of the award: This prestigious award goes to the NWOR member Solo driver
who, after having competed in at least half of the season events, has the greatest
number of cones counted against him/her for the entire season. This is not a “best of”
award – if I driver competes in more then the required number of events, ALL counts are
counted toward the total.
xii. NOTE: This trophy has been donated by John and Debbie Fessler (1993), and redonated
by Lynn Ritchie (1996). If any competitor wins this trophy in 3 consecutive
years, the trophy is renamed in that competitor’s name.
7. The Jack Burns Race Wheels ‘Extra Mile Award’
xiii. Objective of the award: This award will be presented to the person or persons who
demonstrate exceptional dedication to the NWOR-SCCA Solo program and demonstrate
the highest level of sportsmanship throughout the Solo season. Eligible candidates must
participate in more then 50% of the season’s Solo event (participation does not
necessarily mean as a driver). Nominees for this award will be proposed by the Solo
Board, and the final decision will be made by Jack Burns and the Regional Executive.
